Fall Convening

November 28, 2012

The Succeed 2020 Fall Convening was held in Bismarck on October 24-25, 2012. Members from Regional Education Associations (REAs) were convened for further development of project implementation plans and to continue establishing common metrics and best practices across the state. Local experts from state education institutions were invited to share strategies and resources. Panel discussions, breakout groups, and REA “team time” enabled a wide range of relevant topics to be covered and plans effectively developed. A panel, Meeting the Needs of Native American Students, was convened to provide the teams with a context for the work they will implement within their districts.

Concurrent sessions included:

  • STEM – This session aimed to identify the role that REAs may play in improving STEM opportunities for students. Brief introductions to current and planned REA and statewide efforts were included.
  • Common Core – During this session, common needs across the state were discussed, and the role REAs can play individually and collectively in supporting the transition to common core.
  • College and Career Planning – This session reintroduced REAs to the college and career planning curriculum that will be integrated into RUReadyND. The session also included Q & A with staff from the Department of CTE.
  • Business Partnerships – During this session, participants learned tips and strategies for school/business partnerships and shared effective practices to begin and maintain conversations with employers.

Project/REA directors also met to review strategic priorities, identify cross-site TA priorities and review grants management and finance procedures. Representatives from each REA participated in targeted in-depth sessions on both common metrics and communications.
