The Missouri River Education Cooperative (MREC, based in Mandan) serves 39 school districts in south central North Dakota including Bismarck and Mandan.
MREC’s Succeed 2020 program supports teachers and administrators through professional development, increases student awareness of college and career opportunities, and increases student participation in STEM activities and math remediation.
Specifically, teachers and administrators receive assistance to improve their knowledge, skills, and instructional strategies in the classroom through MREC professional development opportunities This takes a variety of forms from professional learning communities to on-site professional development to subject-specific teaching programs. MREC strengthens its programs through a principal leadership seminars.
MREC activities also improve students’ awareness of college and careers. For example, MREC introduces students to careers through a career fair and career symposia focused on specific industries such as healthcare and information technology. MREC helps teachers bring these activities back into the classroom through tools to integrate career exploration into lessons.
In addition MREC provides specialized programs for some students. MREC’s popular First Tech Challenge team competition program allows students to receive additional learning opportunities through the development of robotic machines and connects education to industry with local industry experts serving as team mentors and soft skill educators.”
