MDEC
Mid-Dakota Education Cooperative
The Mid Dakota Education Cooperative (MDEC, based in Minot) serves 15 school districts in and around Minot.
MDEC’s Succeed 2020 program strengthens teacher professional development, enhances student knowledge of careers, and provides targeted supports to students needing more access to CTE courses.
MDEC provides teachers with professional development to improve instructional strategies. This starts with an assessment of the needs of schools, teachers, and students. Then MDEC provides tailored guidance and training to individual schools as well as topic-specific training across districts.
Students’ knowledge of careers is enhanced through MDEC programming. Staff help teachers and counselors deliver lessons from Roads to Success, North Dakota’s college and career planning curriculum. MDEC also helps schools to develop job shadows and internships at local businesses and prepare students for professional work environments. After a summer internship in 2014, one student was hired immediately by the company for which she interned.
MDEC will assist in the development of offering of summer CTE courses for students who are unable to complete a program of study due to limited courses or scheduling conflicts.
