NCEC
North Central Education Cooperative
The North Central Education Cooperative (NCEC, based in Bottineau) serves 16 school districts, including schools on the Turtle Mountain reservation.
NCEC’s Succeed 2020 program empowers teachers and administrators, as well as provides direct programs for students.
Teachers and administrators learn new teaching strategies through professional learning communities and professional development. NCEC also facilitates school-wide improvement and planning. For example, NCEC has partnered with Turtle Mountain Community Schools to implement vertical alignment, a process of ensuring the skills and knowledge gained in each grade build on the previous grade’s work. Through these activities NCEC empowers teachers and administrators in the classroom and throughout their schools.
NCEC coordinates programs for students. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) investigations activities allow students to apply theoretical lessons to real life projects, while Camp Invention allows students to practice STEM activities in a summer camp. NCEC staff support rural schools by providing lessons from Roads to Success, North Dakota’s college and career planning curriculum. Career fairs for middle and high school students are offered to help students get a better sense of career opportunities.
