RESP Career Expo Huge Success

April 10, 2014

Dickinson, ND – Dickinson State University opened its campus to over 450 students from the southwest region who attended the 2014 Career Expo on Tuesday, March 18, 2014.

High school sophomores and juniors were brought together to participate in this Career Expo by the Roughrider Education Services Program Succeed 2020, a ND education and workforce initiative. RESP Succeed 2020’s goal is to help North Dakota students make a smooth transition from high school to either post-secondary education or the workforce. The Career Expo consisted of two parts, a morning session where students interacted in sessions with practicing professionals who spoke about their career and an afternoon sessions where students participated in hands-on demonstrations.

RESP Succeed 2020 College and Career Facilitator Brittany Ludwig stated, “The amount of participation was tremendous; the students were engaged and even more businesses want to participate next year.”

The RESP Succeed 2020 program is aimed at both middle and high school students, putting them on track to being better equipped for their college and career goals. Specific program objectives are to increase ACT scores, reduce developmental or remedial education, and boost on-time completion of high school and college programs.

Succeed 2020 Program Director Yvonn Weigel, acknowledge that “without a collaborative effort of many businesses across the region and state the alliance that we have had with Dickinson State University, these events would not be possible for youth.”
